Are you wondering where to travel this fall? Here are some fabulous fall getaways and a few of my favourite places to visit at this time of year.
Vancouver is sophisticated, culturally-rich, and easy to reach from many parts of the world. This time of year, run or walk along the Stanley Park seawall, wander the colourful stalls at Granville Island Market, and shop for the latest fall fashions at Holt Renfrew (Canada’s luxury department store). Families will want to ride the spooktacular Ghost Train in Stanley Park – open between October 13 – 31st.
Fall is an excellent time to visit Whistler. Hiking trails are still open, the fall colours are spectacular, and many hotels, spas, and restaurants offer promotions. I often hike into November, but winter can arrive early in the mountains so be sure to check the weather forecast if you are planning a spontaneous getaway.
If you enjoy culinary events, be sure to attend Cornucopia – Whistler’s celebration of food and drink – from Nov. 9 to 19, 2017. Visit the Cornucopia website for tickets, event information, and accommodation packages.
I love to vacation at the Four Seasons Resort Scottsdale at the end of the summer. Sun-filled days, scenic hiking trails, and poolside margaritas make Arizona a fabulous fall gateway for anyone counting the days until summer returns.
Late fall is an excellent time to visit London. Christmas decorations glow above shopping streets, store windows are dressed for the season, and the fall foliage at Kensington Gardens is spectacular. Be sure to spend time exploring the Kensington and Knightsbridge neighbourhoods – they are a few of London’s special places.
Do you have any fabulous fall getaways planned or do you prefer to travel during another season?
Fabulous Fall Getaways – Travel Tips
- Vancouver International Airport (YVR), named Best Airport in North America for an unprecedented seventh consecutive year at the Skytrax World Airport Awards, is excellent. Although Uber hasn’t made it to B.C., there are numerous transportation options from YVR into the city and beyond.
- Whistler is located approximately 90 minutes from Vancouver via the Sea to Sky Highway. Here is a link to various transportation options.
- The London Underground is a convenient way to get around the city. Uber is an excellent choice for transportation to and from London’s Heathrow and City airports. For London’s Gatwick airport, consider the Gatwick Express train from Gatwick Airport’s South Terminal to London’s Victoria Station.
