An excellent (and exclusive) ski destination, Lech Zürs am Arlberg in Austria’s westernmost province of Vorarlberg is also world-class during the summer season. Sparkling mountain lakes, glacier-fueled streams, and lush alpine meadows draw tourists from all over the world. And the family hiking in Lech is excellent with family-run hotels, accessible trails, and traditional mountain huts serving food and drinks.
Family hiking in Lech Zürs am Arlberg
From the village centre, the options for family hiking in Lech are plentiful. For example, you can walk out and back along the Lech River Trail, hike through scented forests to turquoise-coloured Lake Spullersee, or hop on the hiking bus or cable car for access to over 300 km of marked trails.

We joined a complimentary guided excursion from Hotel Gotthard, our hotel in Lech, and hiked along the Lech River Trail and onto the Ravensburger Mountain Hut overlooking Lake Spullersee. After stopping for lunch, a swing, and slackline fun at the traditional mountain hut and playground, we hiked a bit further. On the other side of Lake Spullersee, we caught the hiking bus back to the village of Lech. It was a spectacular day in the mountains.

Visitors that stay in Lech longer than one night receive a Lech Card with complimentary access to many local services including cable cars and chair lifts, hiking bus, forest swimming pool, and tennis courts.
Where to Stay in Lech
Hotel Gotthard was our home away from home in Lech, and although we only stayed for a few days, the welcoming Walch family treated us like long-time guests. Nicole and Clemens Walch are third generation hoteliers, and they seem to run Hotel Gotthard with the same passion as founder Filomena Walch when she opened the hotel in 1931.
Freshly baked goodies from the family’s Lech Bakery and a generous breakfast buffet nourish guests for a day in the mountains. After exploring this beautiful corner of Austria, your can relax on Hotel Gotthard’s sun-filled terrace with a cappuccino or cocktail and plan tomorrow’s adventure.

Our visit to Vorarlberg, Austria was in collaboration with the Vorarlberg State Tourist Board. As always, if I don’t enjoy a destination or experience, I won’t recommend it.

Your last picture is unreal! Looks like a total painting! Austria sounds amazing and I can’t wait to be able to go and enjoy the beautiful nature! Love hikes!

Wow, Lech is so green and lush! And the trails are so neatly formed and well cared for. We’ll have to stop by the next time we’re in Austria.
