The pack of Pinarello Dogma F10 road bikes outside Hotel La Perla is the first sign that you have arrived at one of Europe’s premier cycling destinations. But, only if you pull into the hotel’s cobbled driveway before the guided (and fully supported) road ride begins. If you miss the gleaming Pinarellos, there is beautiful ‘Linda’, the Czech-made penny-farthing fronting the family-run hotel entrance. Linda belongs to Michil Costa, a La Perla owner, and cycling enthusiast.

Linda’s engraved nameplate reads, “les Dolomites nosta tera nosta vita”. Roughly translated, this means, the Dolomites our land our life. Passion runs deep in the Costa family. And it extends beyond their beloved Dolomite region in northern Italy – it’s evident in their world-class hotel La Perla, the in-house road cycling program, and how they care for their guests.

My husband and I have cycled in France and Spain, but never on the legendary mountain roads in Italy’s Dolomites. It didn’t take long for us to realize that Hotel La Perla in Corvara, is in a league of its own when it comes to cycling in Europe. Here are six reasons why Hotel La Perla is the best place for road cycling in the Dolomites (and possibly in Europe).

Six Reasons Why Hotel La Perla Is the Best Place for Road Cycling in the Dolomites

1. Top Quality Road Bikes

Guests at La Perla ride reigning Tour de France champion Chris Froome’s bike of choice, the Pinarello Dogma F10. This Italian thoroughbred and multiple cycling grand tour winner is the perfect machine for carving through the mountain passes. And the Pinarello Dogma F10 ensures you are well-equipped in the best place for road cycling in the Dolomites.

InGamba, a bike tour company, founded by former professional cyclist JoĆ£o Correia, operate the cycling program at Hotel La Perla.

It starts with a professional bike fit, expert tuning by a World Tour mechanic, on-ride nutrition thoughtfully prepared by the InGamba soigneur, plus pre-filled water bottles. And this is just the beginning. There is a daily pre-ride briefing, as well as a team car and fully-stocked van providing on-ride support.

The InGamba team aren’t just cycling experts; they are local experts. They know the climbs, the traffic, and the best places to stop along the way. If you want to explore the legendary Dolomites on your own, InGamba’s customized route maps are designed to slide into a jersey pocket.

3. Ideal Location

Situated in a quiet corner in the village of Corvara, La Perla’s unique location is ideal for road cycling in the Dolomites. For example, from the cobbled driveway, you can join the region’s famous Sella Ronda cycle route over storied passes like Gardena, Sella, Pordoi, and Campolongo. This epic ride covers 58 km (37 miles) and 1,800 metres (5900 feet) of elevation. The Sella Ronda is one of many cycling routes accessible from La Perla, either with InGamba or on your own.

  3. Iā€™ve always been so impressed by hardcore cycling enthusiasts ā€“ I would love to do it, and do enjoy a leisurely bike ride, but have never been able to go for long distance rides! Perhaps my problem is I just need to try! Italyā€™s Dolomites would be an incredible place for this type of adventure!
I love that Hotel La Perla recognizes this is a premiere reason to visit the region and fully embraces it. And knowing that there are 5 resturants to choose from as a treat at the end of a long dayā€™s ride would be a pretty good incentive to come back each day! Restaurant Ladinia lookc charming ā€“ like a beautiful mountain chalet!

I love the luxury offered at Hotel La Perla ā€“ I would probably visit first for the hiking, and then maybe ease into a bike ride :D!

  4. Nancy, my husband loves to cycle when we travel. He had a great time with off-roading experiences on croatian islands this summer. Hopefully, as our daughter grows up, we will do more family bike experiences esp in Europe. This property you reviewed, the location, food, bike gear everything sounds great. Bookmarking it to explore someday in the future.

  5. I drove through the Dolomites last year on a road trip and was amazed at the number of cyclists out out on those crazy hills and valleys. Definitely some intense bike riding, that’s for sure. Love how Hotel La Perla offers the best equipment for guests and provides a team car and support van. That is top notch service right there. Very impressive and I’m sure appreciated during those intense rides. Plus, you get to relax in comfort at night afterwards.

  6. My brother and his wife would love this, they are such keen cyclists and have spent time cycling in Europe, in fact I think my brother said he stayed in a place similar…. being surrounded by all things bikes and some awesome food to chose from in the area, reckon it would be ideal for keen bikers.

  7. Hotel La Parla looks really cute and a boutique hotel. The decor seems so colourful and bright. The gleaming bikes are enough to set the adrenaline coursing through the veins. And foremost the location looks so ideal for cycling. I am sure it would be a blissful experience.

  8. Visiting the Dolomites is high on our Travel wishlist, for some hiking and road tripping. Will have to look into Hotel La Perla – Looks like a gorgeous location and hotel. Love that they have such amazing bikes and must have been ideal for cycling around the area – how strenuous was it? we are more leisure bike riders.

  9. Good for you for cycling the Dolomites! We just did some e-biking on a Scenic Cruises river trip in France — but that was on the flat trail running alongside the Seine River :-). Your trip looks a lot more challenging :-).
