A Luxury Alpine Escape at Burg Vital Resort Oberlech, Austria

It’s barely November, and I’m planning our annual summer vacation in Europe. Last year, I discovered the luxurious Burg Vital Resort in the exclusive community of Oberlech, Austria – it is one of the first places I will book for summer 2018. Here is why we love the Burg Vital Resort Oberlech and think you will too.

Burg Vital Resort Location

The Burg Vital Resort Oberlech, located at 1700 m above sea level, is on a sun-filled plateau in the Arlberg mountains. The Lech ZĆ¼rs am Arlberg region is located in Austria’s Vorarlberg state – a favourite summer destination for hiking, biking, llama trekking, and indulging in Bregenzerwald Cheese.

In the warmer months, hotel guests can access hiking and biking trails from the entrance to the Burg Vital Resort. These paths wind through fragrant alpine meadows and past mountain restaurants like Kriegeralpe where we often stop for a drink and a snack or meal. We enjoy traditional Austrian cuisine like Kaiserschmarrn (shredded pancake with jam) – don’t miss this tasty treat.

Suites and Rooms

Seven inter-connected alpine chalets house the luxury suites, apartments, and guest rooms at Burg Vital Resort Oberlech. Decorated with natural fabrics, original art, and high-quality finishings, the resort delivers five-star luxury in Austria’s Arlberg region.

vitalSPORT

A gym with exercise machines, trainers and daily exercise and relaxation programs are available to guest at Burg Vital Resort Oberlech.

Dining

Chef Thorsten Probost’s kitchen utilizes local ingredients and follows the principle that food should be prepared and enjoyed in harmony with nature. Using herbs from his garden or the nearby alpine meadows, ancient grains, and meats from trusted producers, Chef Probost embodies the “you are what you eat” philosophy. You can taste the quality in his thoughtfully prepared cuisine available at Restaurant Picea and Griggeler Stuba.

Restaurant Picea

Homemade bread, herbal tea brewed with local botanicals, fresh fruit, and local eggs are a few of the items offered at Restaurant Picea’s breakfast buffet. Fantastic fuel for a day in the mountains.

Choose to eat lunch inside or on the flower-filled outdoor terrace during the summer season. Our stay at Burg Vital Resort began with lunch on the outdoor patio. The delicious food, Austrian wine selection, and attentive service made this one of the most memorable meals of 2017.

Griggeler Stuba

Award-winning Griggeler Stuba, with three Gault Millau toques, offers health-enhancing dishes prepared using fresh, local herbs, vegetables, fish, and meat. You can also order typical menu items as well as palate-pleasing Austrian cuisine.

  1. I can totally understand why you love staying here.. For one, I love the rooms! It looks pretty homey and very cozy. I really like the woody design. AND Llama trekking? So cool! Not only is the resort pretty relaxing, it offers amazing activities too!

The rooms at Burg Vital Resort are gorgeous, Marvi. I should clarify that didn’t go llama trekking at Burg Vital Resort – it’s something I have done in a nearby village. But there is lots to do at and around Burg Vital Resort!

  2. I go to the alps quite often and love going to my accommodation which is way above sea level. This resort looks totally awesome and a great place to go to after a days hike. I am due a trip back to this area soon so who knows, I might give this place a check šŸ™‚

  3. You had me with the first picture of the pool looking over the Arlberg mountains ā€“ what an incredible location for a hotel.

The Burg Vital Resort sounds like an incredible overall experience ā€“ weā€™re big on hiking and biking, so I love that the trails start right from the entrance of the hotel. Such a beautiful finish for the rooms and suites too ā€“ really love the wood design. Feels like a luxury chalet in the mountains.

The indoor pool looks beautiful, but I think I would opt for swimming outside. Might bump into you in Europe now Austria is on my radar too!

Thanks for the thoughtful comments, Meg! Burg Vital Resort is reminiscent of a cluster of large luxury chalets. There are seven separate buildings and I think a new one will be finished in time for the 2017/18 ski season. Walking the art-filled hallways is like being inside a well-appointed home – it’s a wonderful place to vacation in the mountains.

  4. Wow! Just look at that suite. That entrance to Burg Vital is also very majestic. I would also like to point out that your photos are one of the best I’ve seen! You take in good angles. Also, thanks for the tip on Lech cards!

  5. These pictures are just so incredible. I’ve wanted to visit a resort in Austria for some time, mainly because I get the sense you can really relax in that mountain air and with that scenery. The Burg Vital Resort seems like a perfect place to get health back on track, I’d definitely take a dip in that outdoor pool with the mountains as my view – is it heated?

  6. I was in Oberlech this past summer (or actually, I stayed in Lech and went up with the cable car for one afternoon) but had really poor weather so I didn’t see much of the mountains. The Kaiserschmarrn are definitely among my favorites!

  7. Burg Vital is an epitome of luxury. While they have retained the chalet-like ambiance one can see the modern fixtures everywhere. I love the all-year pool one can enjoy even while it is snowing outside . The color of the lake is just stunning!

  8. What a gorgeous resort. I’d love to stay here some day, that wood-paneled bedroom was downright cozy. I did get a chuckle out of the intro: nothing says Austria like llama trekking šŸ˜‰

  9. Your photos are stunning! I could totally imagine myself walking into one of the rooms and sleeping there after reading your description of the beds, the fireplace, and the comfy surroundings. But who wants to sleep when there are such incredible views to enjoy, too!?
